NY Times: Bill Clinton Linked To Brazil Ethanol Probe

Mon Mar 10, 2008 at 07:38:39 PM PDT

I just saw this posted in the Times.

I haven't seen it discussed before but the article suggests that Clinton has invested in a company that maintained cruel and intolerable conditions for its workers.

I don't know whether this has legs but it looks remarkably skeevy and reflects poorly upon Clinton.  Seems like it "vetting time."  In my simple mind, I think this makes the Clintons' tax returns even more of an issue. Ya know...for proper vetting.

Clinton Campaign At War...With Self

Thu Mar 06, 2008 at 06:45:36 AM PDT

OK...another short diary.  I haven't seen this posted here but I think this has value...if only schadenfreude.  Apparently, Hillary's "victory" has not staunched the flow of blood in her own camp.

Here's the WaPo story that is headlined on HuffPo this morning.

WaPo...Hillary's Staff At War With Itself

It seems as if there are VERY serious fault lines that appear to be getting worse even in victory.

HuffPo's Edsall: Mark Penn - Hillary's Campaign Tumor

Fri Feb 29, 2008 at 02:09:57 PM PDT

Wow.  Thomas Edsall really scorches Penn in a piece on HuffingtonPost.  Way beyond most anything I've ever seen on HuffPo.

For instance, the headline for the article is Mark Penn:  Hillary's Campaign Tumor.  Whew.  The gloves are off on that one.  The article however, is quite fascinating and highly recommended.  It lays out ALL of Penn's massive lobbying/PR influence.  In my mind, it irreversibly calls into question HRC's motivation and judgement in using this this guy.  He's at the beck and call (for a hefty price of course) for all, whether Dem or Republican.  The requisite being that you have wealth and power.

2nd Update: Houston Superdelegate Switches from Clinton To Obama

Thu Feb 28, 2008 at 07:01:42 AM PDT

Yet another superdelegate has migrated from Clinton to Obama. Rep. Senfronia Thompson has declared her intention to vote for Obama.

This is a fairly short diary but I think that the trend is quite clear as per the article linked below, there are now more than 24 superdelegates who have jumped on the Obama wagon during the recent weeks.

NY Times: Clinton Approaching Appomattox?

Sat Feb 23, 2008 at 07:26:53 PM PDT

All the cliches and platitudes apply.  It's not over 'til it's over.  The fat lady has to sing.  Remember the 1986 World Series and the 2004 Championship Series.  Remember the Alamo.  On and on...

As the trendlines, money and demographics have all been breaking for Obama, I have been wondering what rabbit will be pulled out of the hat. With Hillary Clinton going spectacularly negative today, I have been questioning whether this was the launch of a new offense.  It has seemed like the slog to nomination will be endless.  Or maybe not.

OK...maybe it ain't over till it's over, but the Grey Lady is singing and it's a song many of us are hearing.  The NY Times article I just read, reprinted on MSNBC.com, seems to signal that we are approaching the Appomattox Courthouse after some very sharp battles.  I don't mean to mislead with the title...They are not saying that she's quitting.  But the piece seems VERY elegaic.

Clinton to Stand Down If She Loses Texas or Ohio?

Wed Feb 20, 2008 at 04:00:13 PM PDT

Today, Bill Clinton said that Hillary will concede if she loses Texas or Ohio.

I am someone who believes that it is VERY dangerous to ever underestimate a Clinton.  They are tough and battle forged and their eye is focused laser like on the prize.

At the same time, I've been wondering how they would play the game were they to bring it to a conclusion.  Here's a story that makes me wonder whether serious signals aren't being sent.

Rangel and Schumer Step Back from Superdelegate Brink

Mon Feb 18, 2008 at 01:25:40 PM PDT

Two of HRC's most important supporters appear to be...um...stepping back a bit from the incendiary breach that has been promised by HRC's campaign advisors.  I haven't seen this posted elsewhere. I thought this was important and diary worthy however.  Per the story below, Rangel, at least, is painted as questioning Hillary's current reliance upon the superdelegates.

I'm not quite so sure as to what these statements portend.  To me, however, it portend much and signals that both Schumer and Rangel can read the demographic writing on the wall and intend to do what's best for the Party.  I think it significant that two such staunch supporters would question Hillary's strategy.  I think they are signalling the light at the end of this tunnel.

Well, what the hell am I talking about?  More after the flip.

Kossians: What Are You Listening To?

Sun Feb 17, 2008 at 08:45:49 PM PDT

Alright, it's Sunday night of a three day weekend, getting nigh round midnight in these parts. Things seem to be slowing down here at Kos as we trundle off to dream of stump speeches and ARG polls.

Music is my thing...goes well with being a fervent political junkie.  Provides a nice sound track.  My preference is to keep expanding what I listen to...So I come here, with hat in hand, asking you to tell me what you are enjoying.  Expand my horizons.  Expand the horizons of your fellow Kossians.

BREAKING: NY Times: FBI Had Unauthorized Access to E-Mail - Now With Link

Sat Feb 16, 2008 at 03:47:55 PM PDT

According to the NY Times:

A technical glitch gave the F.B.I. access to the e-mail messages from an entire computer network — perhaps hundreds of accounts or more — instead of simply the lone e-mail address that was approved by a secret intelligence court as part of a national security investigation, according to an internal report of the 2006 episode.

Joseph Wilson Said...(w/ Poll)

Wed Feb 13, 2008 at 07:41:49 AM PDT

I think I've glimpsed the Clintonian strategy going into the new phase of the primary season.  It's a piece by Joseph Wilson over at Huffingtonpost.  and I think it offers understanding as to how the Clintons and the surrogates are going to approach Obama over the next few weeks. The groundwork for the Obama "cult of personality" meme has been being laid for the last week or so.  This is a subtle variation on it.

Kossians: What Are You Listening To? (W/ Poll)

Fri Feb 08, 2008 at 06:41:55 PM PDT

Okey dokey...no matter who you support for presidential candidate, you probably listen to music...or books on tape.

It's a Friday night. Everybody is probably tired from participating and/or reading about the various squabbles.  Or from walking the beat to get out the vote.  Or from work.  So...what are y'all listening to?  What's your personal soundtrack for this part of the election cycle7  What do you inject in your ears when you slap on the iPod phones?  Slip into your car?  Program your clock alarm?

A Humble Suggestion: Not Another Candidate Diary (or Mayan Goes Meta)

Sun Jan 27, 2008 at 08:36:49 AM PDT

None of this is going away.  My suggestion is...Maybe the keepers of the site can set-up a special candidate diary section.  Those who want to scry the internal workings of a supporter (or operative) and those who want to rhetorically pummle the pulp out of their opponents can feast their eyes and tear the psychic entrails out of one another.  Those who prefer their Kos experience to be narrowed to discussions of the niceties of life under Bush and the Halliburton overlords or news of the day or the finer points of American political life can go to the regular section.  Unmolested.

BREAKING: I'm Not Sure I Hate Daily Kos

Thu Nov 08, 2007 at 08:27:20 AM PDT

Okey dokey...I've never gone meta in my life but I figure now is a good time to start, what with the spate of diaries on today's plate...not that I'm susceptible to peer pressure, mind you.  Not a bit.

I haven't been posting much at all lately.  For a variety of reasons.  Some local, some global.  Time, tide, life have caused me to turn my eyes from these hallowed orange halls to focus on other endeavors.  Still, I have not been spending much time here...I open the laboratory of my own processes for your persual, thoughts and amusement.

Larry Craig Reconsidering Reconsideration - Updated With Link

Thu Sep 06, 2007 at 08:30:36 AM PDT

I've just read a report that say that Larry Craig is now reconsidering his plans to reconsider his resignation and has basically dropped any and all plans to complete his term.  Sorry about the short diary but it seems as if all the diaries regarding the legal nuances of the case, etc. may be superseded.

At any rate, this is the substance of the story currently breaking at the MSNBC (see below).  Trying to follow this story is like getting on one of those nouveau roller coasters.

WH and Cheney Hit With Subpoenas - Third Update w/Links

Wed Jun 27, 2007 at 10:28:18 AM PDT

It's "BREAKING NEWS" at MSNBC that the White House and Cheney have been hit with subpoenas on the illegal wiretaps.

There's not alot more at this time.  I will keep updating as more information comes my way.  It looks like the scope of the subpoeans is quite broad.  And also hits the DOJ and National Security Council.

What Are You Listening To Now?

Sun May 27, 2007 at 08:35:57 PM PDT

OK...It's a slow Sunday with reverberations from the tensions and drama of the past few weeks.  It seems like there are some very interesting people and some very fine minds, out there in Kossovia.

Music is important to me.  Really important. I enjoy making it (strange electronic melanges) and try to work it as much as possible.  At the same time, I try to listen to new stuff and keep expanding my horizons.  So...what have y'all been listening to lately?

Updated Title: Saturday Morning USA Scandal News - Rove and Immigration Judge Edition

Sat May 26, 2007 at 07:59:16 AM PDT

Good morning, campers.  I saw this story last evening on TPMuckraker and wanted to bring it to folks' attention but I'd already diaried and that diary had already sunsetted...sunk below the horizon line of purview.

TPMuckraker Article

I don't know about you, gentle reader, but I've become a scandal junkie. I hunger for scraps and pieces of news and evidence because I consider the path through oversight to be the quickest and most expedient path toward ridding ourselves of the metastatic criminality that has spread through every aspect of the federal government.  One of the people who planned for years to birth and spread this rot is Karl Rove.  The problem is, he has been like Fog Man...there's been so much deceit, such profound smoke that it's been difficult to find anything to hold onto.  Finally, an email has been uncovered that may be cause to expand the enquiry into his direct role.
